Location: Camp Grafton, Magna Bay, Shuswap Lake, BC


We are looking for a life guard 16 or older to join our camp team. Camp Grafton is a children's summer camp located on Shuswap lake. We have a 45 acre property where we run a variety of activities. The chosen applicant will guard the swim zone with the assistance of one other guard for approximately three hours a day. The swim zone is located on the lake where we have two docks and a roped off area. Outside of swim time the applicant will be able to participate in numerous camp activities such as archery, canoeing, field games, etc. while being fed the best camp food. Volunteering at Grafton is an unforgettable summer experience. The positions run Sunday to Friday, July 2nd to August 6th. Applicants can choose how many weeks they will like to volunteer for. Our volunteers will be awarded honorariums upon completion of their week.

 

Duties:


• Document events, and prepare reports during the camp season

• Supervise all waterfront activity

• Obtain information from camper’s registration form regarding camper’s swimming ability or any related health problems which may affect the camper’s safety.

• Develop, implement, evaluate and be responsible for all aspects of waterfront health and safety, in cooperation with other staff.

• Educate the campers, Volunteer Leaders, Volunteer Staff, and Summer Staff as to the Waterfront Policies and Procedures, especially those regarding safety, and enforcement thereof.

• Ensure the safety and maintenance of all waterfront facilities and equipment.

• Assess the swimming ability of campers, Volunteer Leaders, Volunteer Staff, and Summer Staff on the first day of each camp session and enforce restrictions on the basis of the assessments.

• Work with other staff as a team and ensure that Emergency Procedures are regularly reviewed and tested.

• Actively participate as a member of the Program Staff team in other aspects of camp when the waterfront is closed.

• Model enthusiastic, mature leadership to campers and volunteers.

Position Description:

Enable Occupational Therapy is a private health care team that provides innovative and creative Occupational Therapy and Recreation Therapy services including basketball, kayaking, soccer, printing, swimming, anxiety reduction, and playground sessions. Under the direction of an Occupational Therapist and / or Recreation Therapist, the Rehabilitation Assistant (Pool OT Support Worker) implements treatment plans and programs in the pool and assists the Therapist in monitoring patient progression. (Although adapted exercises may be taught in the water, these exercises do not follow the Red Cross Adapted program; these exercises are tailored to the child’s medical needs and are created in conjunction with the Therapist).

Please note: the clientele may be non-verbal with their communication and utilize walkers and wheelchairs for mobility. Diagnoses include Anxiety, Autism, Developmental Delay and Cerebral Palsy. (References and a criminal record check will be required.)

CLERC 2018 Call for Officials - MILTON, ON

The Lifesaving Society Canada invites applications from Officials to officiate at the 2018 Canadian Lifeguard Emergency Response Championships.

Applications are invited from all suitable persons who wish to be considered for appointment for these Championships. If you wish to be considered, please complete the attached form and submit it to Laura O’Driscoll or Lorraine Wilson-Saliba.
 
The Canadian Emergency Response Championships will take place May 5 & 6 in Milton, Ontario.
Travel expenses for all officials are to be paid for by the individual.
 
A limited accommodation budget is provided for this championship for those officials from out-of-town. Where possible please make arrangements with friends or family.
 
Food and drink will be provided to officials while you are volunteering during the Championship events. Officials are invited and welcome to attend the awards banquet. There may be a nominal cost for tickets.
