The National Lifeguard Pool certification is designed to develop the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards. The National Lifeguard course emphasizes the lifeguarding skills, principles and practices, and the decision-making processes which will assist the lifeguard to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments.

The objective of the NL Precert is to provide candidates an opportunity to review NL skills and knowledge and to provide education on new information before the start of the Recertification.
Although not a requirement, the BC & Yukon Branch highly recommends that candidates attend an NL Precert prior to attempting an NL Pool Recert exam.

This is the national standard for lifeguards in Canada. Candidates develop the fundamental values, judgement, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards.
Cost – $500 (includes processing fees, Canadian Lifesaving Manual, AMOA manual, fanny pack, pocket mask and whistle)
August 23rd : Sunday from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm
August 24th – 28th : Mon – Fri from 8:00am – 4:30pm
All candidates must have completed and bring with them on Day 1 proof of: Standard 1st Aid with CPR-C, Bronze Cross, 15 years old by last day of course (Passport, Drivers License, BCID, or Birth Certificate for proof of age)
100% attendance is needed
Bring towels, change of clothes, warm clothes, sufficient food, water and snacks

Cancellation of 7 days or more before program start date: Refund of fees less (a 10$ processing fee + program supply fees (if applicable)).
Cancellation of 6 days or less before program start date: No refunds.

Prerequisite: Bronze Cross (does not need to be current) and Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care (current award recommended) by the first day of the NL course. Emergency First Aid certificates obtained in high school are not accepted. Alert Manual ($41.00) is required and not included in fee. There is a non-refundable exam fee of $60.00.
Students must be prepared to bring bathing suit, manual and paper for each class. Prerequisite: Bronze Cross (does not need to be current), Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care (current award recommended) and you must be 15 years old by the last day of the course. Candidates will need to provide proof of the prerequisites on the 1st day of the course to the instructor or be sent home with no refund. Emergency First Aid certificates obtained in high school are not accepted. Recognized Agencies for Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care are: any Canadian branch of the Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St John Ambulance, Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Ski Patrol.

NOTE: In addition to the mandatory prerequisites above, it is strongly recommended that candidates take the Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC) course prior to the start of their National Lifeguard course. This course helps bridge the gap in skills between Standard First Aid and National Lifeguard to prepare candidates for success in the National Lifeguard awards and employment.
The NL will be held at the Comox valley Sports Centre Nov. 27 & 26, and Dec. 4 & 5th. The last 4 days will be a t the Comox Valley Sports Centre Dec. 11 & 12, 18 & 19th

This clinic is for individuals wishing to recertify their NL Award. There is a non-refundable exam fee of $35.00. This is a RECERT only. There will not be any time to practice skills before-hand as with a pre-cert. 100% attendance is required.
The 4 hour NL precert is designed to provide candidates the opportunity to review NL skills and to provide education on new information before the 4 hour NL Recert.
Prerequisite: Proof of previous NL pool option (Need not be current). A current CPR-C is recommended but not required.
