Overview
The First Aid Instructor/Examiner course trains instructors to apply teaching and evaluation philosophy to techniques and approaches required to teach first aid skills. Candidates also learn about long-range/short-term planning, class management, safety supervision and the principles of evaluation. Lifesaving First Aid Instructors are able to teach the entire Lifesaving First Aid Continuum upon certification to include the following programs:
-CPR A/AED, CPR C/AED
-Emergency First Aid with CPR A or CPR C
-Emergency First Aid Child & Community Care with CPR C/AED
-Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED

Upon passing the First Aid Instructor/Examiner course, candidates must: Complete an apprenticeship on a Standard First Aid/CPR-C & AED course, plus an apprenticeship on a BLS Responder course or a Standard First Aid Recert course.
Recognition
First Aid Instructor Certification Card
Currency
Certification is valid for 3 years from date of issue.
Recertification
Recertification of the First Aid Instructor certification is achieved by attending a First Aid Instructor Recert.
Prerequisites
- First Aid Instructor (held since 2021; current within 5 years).
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C/AED (current)
- Taught at least two full Standard First Aid courses in the last 3 years with the Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon Branch &
- Attend two Continuing Education Credit workshops hosted by the Lifesaving Society- one in 2026 and again one in 2027 First Aid Instructor (held since 2019; current within 5 years).
