The Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Center in West Kelowna is actively hiring qualified lifeguard/swim instructors. We are currently looking to fill daytime weekday shifts (anywhere 5:30 AM-4pm shifts) specifically, but also fill in weekend and evenings shifts as well. Flexible schedule within those hours.

 

Potential candidates should have:

  • Current NL Pool option
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR-C
  • Current WSI or Swim for Life Instructor Award

Any additional courses would be considered an asset. Those with just an NL or Instructor award may apply, but will be required to finish training upon hiring. Starting wage is $20.43/hour with an added $1/hour during teaching shifts and wage increases during Head Guard/shift supervisor shifts.

The Fraser Valley Regional District is a local government that delivers over 100 services to residents living in our eight electoral areas and six-member municipalities. As a Lifeguard at the FVRD, a typical week could see you opening and closing the pool; monitoring pool related activities closely and identifying any safety issues; directing swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions; maintaining a clean environment in and around the pool; and providing assistance to patrons when appropriate or necessary. The ideal candidate will also possess their Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate and teach swimming lessons at our 25m pool at the Dan Sharrers Aquatic Centre.

Required qualifications:                                                 

 

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Current National Lifeguard certification
  • Current CPR-C certification and knowledgable in basic first aid techniques
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a pool and related equipment
  • Ability to remain alert and professional while on duty
  • Good communication and public relation skills, with the ability to use tact and courtesy in dealing with patrons

 

The preferred candidates will also possess:

 

  • Lifesaving Instructor certificate
  • Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor certification

 

The wage rate for this part-time Union position is $23.56 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits. Upon successful completion of the required probationary period, if eligible, participation in the benefits program. Shift differential and overtime are paid where applicable, as per the Collective Agreement. Those who are qualified and instructing lessons will be paid the Swimming Instructor rate. Lifeguards must be available for shifts from up to 8 hours anytime between the hours of 6:00 am and 11:00 pm, inclusive of evenings, weekends and some holidays and may be required to travel in the performance of the duties.

Lifeguard / Instructor I
Regular Part-time, Part-time (Term) & Casual

 

The District of Summerland is seeking 1 permanent part-time, 1 part-time term (6 month) and 1 to 3 casual Lifeguard / Instructor I’s to provide lifeguarding and aquatic instruction at the Summerland Aquatic & Fitness Centre. Interested applicants should enjoy working with the public, can adapt to an ever-changing work environment to meet the demands of the job, and have a flexible schedule. All required certifications must be current, and copies of certifications will be required.

 

The ideal candidates will be dependable, motivated, team-players with a positive attitude and excellent communication and customer service skills. They must also be a strong swimmer, in excellent physical condition and have the ability to effectively control large groups of people of all ages. 

 

To stay current in procedures, equipment, and lifeguarding, the successful candidates will be available for a minimum commitment as follows:

 

Permanent Part-time: 12 hours per week from September to June, and a combined minimum of 40 hours for the months of July and August, pending schedule availability. 

 

Part-time (Term): as noted in Permanent Part-time, and term is for six months starting as soon as possible.

 

Casual: 25 hours per 6-month period (January - June & July - December) 

 

The shift schedule is varied and may include hours between 5:45am – 10:00pm weekdays and 8:15am through 7:30pm on weekends. This is a union position (CUPE 1136) and the hourly wage is $28.19 plus 15% in lieu of benefits.
