Nature & Scope:
The Aquatics Supervisor leads the Aquatics staff team with a primary focus on aquatics programming and maintaining a safe aquatic environment. The Aquatics Supervisor also works collaboratively with all YMCA staff and volunteers. The work of the Aquatics Supervisor is advanced in its complexity and involves non-routine challenges. Work is also performed under limited direction according to broad guidelines. The successful candidate will have to problem solve and use their judgment in adapting and applying procedures to address and resolve unusual problem situations. This candidate will also be able to cover/teach Aqua Fit classes and lifeguard the pool when needed.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements strategies that achieve and sustain program growth for aquatic programming
- Ensures the provision of a safe aquatic environment through the hiring, supervision and training of lifeguards, instructors, and volunteers
- Performs service standards and provides leadership through direct service delivery, with a focus on program quality and participant engagement
- Identifies resource needs and liaises with Recruitment for hiring of new staff.
- Provides role and program specific orientation and training to new employees and volunteers.
- Coaches, develops, and supports employees and volunteers to achieve excellence in service delivery.
- Provides ongoing management of employee and volunteer performance and completes reviews within required process timeframes.
- Deals with performance issues using the required steps in the discipline process, up to and including termination.
- Participates in branch/program planning sessions and assists with the development and implementation of program plan and materials, ensuring compliance with Association/legislative requirements.
- Assists in preparation of program operating budget and ensures program is delivered within budget.
- Attends staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required
- Explores and develops community partnership opportunity with the goal of increasing the breadth of YMCA programs and services
- Communicates with program participants and/or stakeholders to ensure service delivery standards are being met
- Promotes philanthropy through the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years progressive, results oriented, customer service, and aquatics supervisory experience.
- Post‐secondary education in a related field
- Demonstrated achievement in implementing service standards
- Current National Lifeguard Pool Option Certificate
- Current Airway Management and Oxygen Administration (AMOA) Certificate
- Current Water Safety Instructor Certificate
- Experience as a Lifeguard/Swim instructor
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR‐C & AED certificate
- Access to a vehicle or able to travel within the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley

The District of Summerland is seeking a skilled individual to be part of our Aquatic Leadership Team at the Summerland Aquatic & Fitness Centre. This individual will have a leadership role in duties such as lifeguarding, instructing swim lessons, aquatic program instruction and cashiering. They will also be responsible for leading and implementing the Aquatics and Fitness Centre maintenance program.
The ideal candidate will be a dependable, team-player with a positive attitude and excellent communication skills who enjoys a variety of tasks in an ever-changing work environment. If you have knowledge and experience of pool mechanical maintenance, pool chemistry and equipment repair servicing and operation, along with the required skillset and certifications to lifeguard and instruct, we want you at the District of Summerland! The current working schedule for this position is 40 hours/week. September to June shifts are Tuesday to Saturday evening shifts (some flexibility will be considered). This is a full-time union position (CUPE 1136) and the wage is $30.30 per hour along with a competitive benefits package and pension.

Job Description
The City of Mission’s Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is seeking energetic and motivated individuals with excellent interpersonal and communications skills for the role of Lifeguard/Instructor 3 (Head Guard) (2 positions). This role is a combination of administrative and hands-on duties.
In this role, you will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative and supervisory duties, such as monitoring the day-to-day operation of the aquatic facility, as well as performing life guarding and instruction duties in various aquatic activities, and, as required, maintenance in the pool area. In the absence of the Supervisor, the Lifeguard/Instructor 3 (Head Guard) will be the designated leader during the allocated timeframe. This position will lead by example and provide guidance and direction to the Lifeguard/Instructors 1 and 2.
In addition to performing guarding and instructing duties, you will assist with supervision on deck, class instruction, daily maintenance, rentals and activities. You will help train and instruct the Lifeguard/Instructors 1 and 2 and provide support and mentoring to aquatic staff and volunteers.
Qualifications
The successful candidates will have graduated from high school and have a minimum of three years experience in guarding and instructing, and supervisory training and/or experience.
Required licences and certifications include: National Lifeguard Pool certification; Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor-Swim for Life and Canadian Swim Patrol; CPR Level C certification (including AED); PoolSafeBC; OFA – Level 1; SEE Auditor; Aquatic Supervisor Trainer. LifeSaving Instructor (LSI) is an asset but not required. If you have been unable to achieve any of the certificates due to timing of training offered, please apply and let us know that you are eligible to take the training at the next opportunity.
In order to be considered for employment, candidates must be available to participate in a wet exam on to be determined date.
Additional Information
The 2023 rate of pay for this CUPE position is $31.03 per hour plus full benefits, including pension, upon completion of probation.
