Overview
The National Lifeguard Pool certification is a core program that builds on the Bronze Cross, focusing on safety supervision and rescue in a swimming pool setting. The National Lifeguard Waterpark certification takes this a step further, preparing lifeguards to manage safety and perform rescues in large aquatic facilities and waterparks, using the skills developed in the NL Pool program as a foundation.
To make training more efficient, the Lifesaving Society offers a combined NL Pool and Waterpark course, totaling 60 hours of continuous instruction—shorter than the 68 hours required when taken separately. The course must follow a sequential format: candidates must complete and pass the NL Pool exam items before moving on to the Waterpark portion. Instructors must follow the timing guidelines in the official combo course guide. A combined NL Pool and Waterpark Precert/Recert option is also available through participating affiliates.
