Lifesaving Instructor Recertification
Description
Lifesaving Instructors play an important role in providing high quality training and are viewed as aquatic experts in the community. The Lifesaving Instructor Recert (LSIR) provides updated information to BC & Yukon Branch LSIs to allow them to continue to provide quality programs in support of the Lifesaving Society mission to prevent injury or death in, on or near the water
Prerequisites
- LSI (current within 10 years of certification/recertification date)
Recognition
Lifesaving Instructor certification card.
Currency
The Lifesaving Instructor Recertification is current for 2 years. After two years Lifesaving Instructors will need to attend a Recert clinic in order to continue teaching (extensions will not be granted).
Any Lifesaving Instructor who is within 5 years from the date of issue can recertify by attending a Lifesaving Instructor Recertification.
Any Lifesaving Instructor who is within 5-10 years from the date of issue can recertify by attending a full Lifesaving Instructor course again or by participating in the LSI Bridges Program.
Any Lifesaving Instructor who is more than 10 years past the date of issue will be required to take the Lifesaving Instructor course again.

Lifesaving Instructor
Description
Lifesaving Instructors are trained to teach the three Canadian Swim Patrol Program awards, as well as the Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Lifesaving Fitness, and Distinction awards. Candidates are trained in and must demonstrate skills, knowledge and attitudes at Competency Level 1 to include all aspects of learning as well as various approaches required to teach water rescue, first aid and related aquatic skills in the Canadian Lifesaving Program. Candidates also learn about long-range and short-term planning, class management, safety supervision and the principles of evaluation.
Lifesaving Instructors can evaluate all items in Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze Star, Lifesaving Fitness, and certify candidates.The LSI course in BC & Yukon Branch includes the Advanced Instructor certification and the Examination Standards clinic.
Prerequisites
- 15 years old (by last day of the course)
- Bronze Cross
