Job Description: 

The Lifeguard provides safety in and around the pool facility. Lifeguards perform as accident preventers, rescuers, public relation officers and administrators.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lifeguards are responsible for the safety and well being of patrons in pool facility. The Lifeguard has both an ethical and legal duty to provide patrons with a high level of concern and a high standard of care for their safety.
  • At the same time, the Lifeguard is expected to facilitate this safe, enjoyable aquatic experience.
  • Will ensure the pool facility is clean, safety equipment is in place/working condition on a daily basis.
  • Do water tests as required daily.
  • Assist in Ticket office duties when required.
  • Assist in maintenance duties, such as locker room cleaning and pool cleaning shifts, and other tasks around the pool.
  • Provide first aid as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Must have a current NLS qualification, and CPR-C, Aed training.
  • Good customer service and public relation skills.
  • WSI, Aquafit Instructor- an asset

Physical Requirements

Physical and mental fitness are prerequisites for effective lifeguarding. These skills are needed to sustain vigilant, attentive and alert supervision.

Additional Notes

As a Lifeguard, you will be required to work day and night shifts. At times you will be doing regular cleaning maintenance, of locker rooms and pools. Challenges with an outdoor facility are weather and other elements

Join us and work May through to August.  With over 1500 meters of ocean beach overlooking the scenic Gulf Islands this position will allow you to play an important part in the girls’ fun, friendship, adventure and discovery at the camp. Our camp has been operating for over 85 years providing a variety of camping experiences for girls. 

You will report to the Summer Staff Supervisor and in this exciting position your main responsibility will be to ensure the safety of participants in all waterfront activities including swimming, kayaking and canoeing.  Additionally, you will support other activities in the camp such as leading girls through the various nature programs and special events.

Life guard wage is $20.00 per hour, plus enjoy - onsite beachfront accommodation provided by the camp.

Lac La Biche County's Aquatics Services department is hiring for the full-time position of Lifeguard II/ (Senior Guard). Under the general direction of the Aquatic Services Coordinator the Lifeguard II is responsible for performing all instructing, guarding, and other duties as assigned.

The duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs duties of Lifeguard and Instructor in a professional manner;
  • Knowledge of facility and emergency policies and procedures
  • Endeavors to provide a clean and safe environment for all patrons
  • Enforces rules and regulations with patrons using the pool
  • Provides leadership, supervision, and feedback to Lifeguard Is in the absence of the Head Guard/Aquatic Coordinator
  • Administers First And Emergency Response as required
  • Responsible for the routine maintenance and daily cleanliness of the facility
  • Responsible for completing daily opening/closing procedures, recording water tests and ensuring incidents and other related paperwork are forwarded to supervisors
  • Makes suggestions to senior staff regarding aspects of the facility and programming
  • Reports an deficiencies or safety concerns regarding safety equipment, facility equipement, mechanics, janitor supplies and other related supplies to head Guard/Aquatic Coordinator for follow up
  • Completes any requested administrative duties, maintenance and related assignments as required
  • Performs duties at reception including admissions and registrations
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Guard or Aquatics Coordinator, or designate

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade Twelve education, B.A. preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age;
  • Current certification in Aquatic Emergency Care or Standard First Aid and CPR-C;
  • Water Safety Instructor certification;
  • National Lifeguard Service Award;
  •  Lifesaving Instructor certification would be an asset;

Equivalent combination of education and experience are also considered;

  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a criminal records check including vulnerable sector, child welfare intervention check and a driver's abstract.
