KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Aquatic Coordinator, the preferred lifeguards and lifeguard instructors will possess a deep commitment to provide quality service and the opportunity to make a difference in the community.  The successful candidates will be responsible for showing leadership combined with life guarding knowledge and experience, a strong work ethic and initiative relating to continuous improvement. Responsibilities will include and are not limited to provide supervision to ensure patron safety, perform instructional duties, and assist with the operation and delivery of aquatic programs/services.

 

We are also hopeful to attract newly certified lifeguards who want to initiate their skills and experience at the Aquatic Centre.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:                  

 

EDUCATION:                                                 Minimum 16 years of age

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

§  Lifeguardmust have National Lifeguard Service (NLS),and CPR-C/Standard First Aid and AED. 

§  Lifeguard/Instructor Imust have NLS, CPR-C/Standard First Aid and AED, and Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

§  Lifeguard/Instructor IImust have NLS, CPR-C/Standard First Aid and AED, WSI, Lifesaving Instructor (LSI), Aqua Fit (or equivalent), and 2 years lifeguarding experience

 

 

The incumbent in all positions must be positive and responsive when dealing with public user groups, other aquatic employees, and perform as a dedicated team player. In addition, you must be able to think clearly while handling multiple priorities in emergencies.

                                   

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  The City of Kimberley has the right to hire a Lifeguard/Instructor level that matches the qualifications.  Any additional qualifications such as a recognized coaching certification, Pool Operation Level 1 and 2, or any other related Instructor or Instructor Trainer status is considered an asset.

 

The position requires working shift work and flexible work hours to effectively perform the duties of the position which includes weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays as required.

 

Qualifications must be outlined with verifications of education/certification attached.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic recreational professional to be involved in aquatic programming work assisting senior supervisory staff in the development, scheduling, coordination and implementation of recreation, fitness and aquatic programs and activities. Typical duties include:

  • perform life guarding functions and administrative duties such as facility/shift check completion, accident reports, lesson results and evaluations,
  • perform pool maintenance duties and other duties as required. 

Occasional contact with chlorine and other related chemicals required for pool operation.

 You:

  • have completed Grade 12 and are actively working towards graduation from a recognized college or university level program in a related discipline and/or
  • are a qualified Water Safety Instructor Trainer BCRPA Supervisor of Fitness Leaders, NLS Instructor or Trainer of Fitness Leaders
  • possess formal lifeguard and instructor training, aquatic programming experience and have completed a pool operator’s course
  • have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor and/or aquatic programmer and/or special events coordinator and some supervisory experience.

The City of Surrey's Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is seeking four Head Lifeguard to provide leadership, supervision and direction in the development of fun and interactive activities, special events and facility operations.

As a Head Lifeguard you thrive in a high energy, team environment that encourages and recognizes success. You will provide leadership, direction and supervision to a team of high performing Lifeguards, Instructors, and facility support staff. You will ensure the facility is well maintained and kept clean and safe on a daily basis, in accordance with BC Health Act. You will perform, and direct staff in routine maintenance such as cleaning change rooms, performing scheduled checks of water quality and equipment functions.

You will also be required to guard, instruct leadership courses, in-service training and assist in developing program and activity schedules suited to the needs and interests of the facility participants. In addition, you will lead or participate in planning, organizing and delivering special events and leisure swim activities.

A thorough knowledge of pool operations, water chemistry, filtration and recreation facility maintenance; current guarding techniques and departmental procedures including applicable safety regulations are required.

Requirements are completion of Grade 12 plus formal lifeguard and instructor training and completion of pool operator’s course. A minimum two years’ experience as a lifeguard / instructor and aquatic program leader is also required. Other requirements include a current certificate in: National Lifeguard Service Award, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and CPR "C" with Auto External Defibrillation certificate, Pool Operator level one. One or more advanced courses are desirable such as: NLS Instructor, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer, RLSSC, BCRPA Aquacize Instructor, Supervisor of Fitness leaders.
