Nature & Scope:                  The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will report to the Aquatic Supervisor, and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

·         Guard the pool and teach swim lessons in a positive and professional manner

  • Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues
  • Promote philanthropy through the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign
  • Develop lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participants.
  • Ensure program design, lay-out, and offerings meet the needs of all participants at various levels
  • Lead program delivery, while ensuring contents meet the appropriate criteria and outline
  • Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities
  • Maintain an atmosphere of achievement that inspires self and others to succeed at the highest levels
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff, including all locker rooms and spectator viewing areas.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all program areas, common spaces, and washrooms
  • Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices
  • Remain flexible – willing to learn new skills, alter shifts
  • Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required

·         Maintain regular attendance, punctuality and be appropriately dressed and well groomed

 

Requirements:

  • Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years)
  • CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year)
  • Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) pool option
  • Experience as a Lifeguard/Swim instruction
  • YMCA Swim Instructor or equivalent
  • YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent, is preferred
  • Advanced leadership courses are an asset
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date

Northern Rockies Aquatic Manager

Job Description: 

We are looking for an Aquatics Manager to complement our Management Team. The Aquatics Manager reports to the Director of Recreation and Facilities or designate, and is responsible for the day to day operational and supervisory functions of the aquatic facility including marketing, policy development, aquatic programming and planning, and staff training. As a member of the Recreation Department team, the Aquatics Manager must be able to work effectively with community organizations and co-workers, demonstrating exemplary customer service and interpersonal skills.

This dynamic position will be a key role in the smooth opening, operations, maintenance, and marketing of the brand new Northern Rockies Aquatic Centre. The successful candidate will supervise and manage the aquatic facility including all staff, maintenance, marketing, budgeting, program
development, and aquatic scheduling. This work will be done in cooperation with the Recreation Department team to facilitate, promote, and accomplish overall recreation goals and objectives.

The preferred candidate has:

· Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Recreation or related field.

· Five years or more experience in a similar environment in a supervisory or managerial capacity.

· Strong computer skills sufficient to obtain information from the
municipal system and run stand alone word processing, database, spreadsheet, and communications applications.

· Class 5 Drivers Licence

· Pool Operators Level 2 or willingness to obtain.

· Current Standard First Aid with CPR/AED or current Aquatic
Emergency Care certification.

· Experience and/or current Lifeguarding qualifications would be
preferable but not mandatory.

Our indoor pool is set to open on Januray 16, 2015 and the position will begin tentatively on January 12, 2015.  Our pool season will end mid May and special consideration will be given to Lillooet lifeguards who choose to continue lifeguarding in either Lytton, Cache Creek or Ashcroft which begins around the same time our pool closes.  Those wanting to permanently move to the area can expect the Lillooet pool to reopen in November of 2015 - giving the successful candidates two months off (September/October) to travel and enjoy life.

Lillooet is a beautiful, rugged location with a low cost of living!  We are an amazing area that boast the best ice climbing in the Coast Mountains, exceptional snowmobiling and skiing terrain, fantastic summer hiking, mountain biking, moutaineering, fishing and water sport opportunities.  Our climate is often the hot spot of Canada and offers amazing opportunites for gardeners and those interested in sustainable living and food security.  All of this, and we are only 2 hours from Kamloops and Whistler.  Adventure is at your door step.
