The Arbutus Club, one of Canada’s finest Private Family Clubs, is hiring 3 PART-TIME LIFEGUARDS / INSTRUCTORS. 

 

The Lifeguard/Instructor is responsible for the safety and instruction of Club Members and Guests using the Aquatic and Spa Facilities during Swim Lessons, General Swim times and Special Events.  The Lifeguard/Instructor also performs the very important task of being a first responder in case of an emergency and providing First Aid as needed throughout The Club.  The Lifeguard/Instructor also performs maintenance and related work, as required.  The ideal candidate will enjoy teaching Swimming Lessons and working with children.

 

Successful candidates will have previous experience as a Lifeguard/Instructor and possess sound knowledge of the rules and regulations governing safety in an indoor Aquatic/Spa facility.  Candidates must have a minimum of 1-year’s experience instructing the Red Cross Swim Program and have knowledge and practice of Lifesaving, Lifeguarding, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid.  Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of customer service situations in a busy aquatic facility and the ability to make decisions in an emergency situation are also required.  Pool Operators Level I, II or III an asset.

 

Applicants must have current National Lifeguard Service (pool option) certification, CPR Level C, Water Safety Instructor certification and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and Standard First Aid and Occupational First Aid Level 1.

 

This position is part of the Bargaining Unit at a starting wage rate of $17.18 per hour.  We require availability for all hours/days and 10-20 hours per week.

Some of the exciting duties of a lifeguard / instructor may include conducting instructional aquatic programs for all age ranges, water surveillance and rule enforcement, as well as rescues and first aid when required.   • Instructing all age groups in swimming techniques for all levels of swimming including West Vancouver Preschool Lessons, Red Cross Programs, recreational and /or specialized aquatic programs;

The preferred candidate will possess:

  • Considerable knowledge of swimming instruction techniques;
  • Ability and experience as a swimmer;
