 Lifeguard II/Senior Guard - Full Time Permanent Position

Under the general direction of the Head Guard or Aquatics Coordinator the Lifeguard II is responsible for performing all instructing, guarding, and other duties as assigned.

 
Responsible for:
Performs duties of Lifeguard and Instructor in a professional manner;
Knowledge of facility and emergency policies and procedures
Endeavors to provide a clean and safe environment for all patrons
Enforces rules and regulations with patrons using the pool
Provides leadership, supervision, and feedback to Lifeguard Is in the absence of the Head Guard/Aquatic Coordinator
Administers First And Emergency Response as required
Responsible for the routine maintenance and daily cleanliness of the facility
Responsible for completing daily opening/closing procedures, recording water tests and ensuring incidents and other related paperwork are forwarded to supervisors
Makes suggestions to senior staff regarding aspects of the facility and programming
Reports an deficiencies or safety concerns regarding safety equipment, facility equipement, mechanics, janitor supplies and other related supplies to head Guard/Aquatic Coordinator for follow up
Completes any requested administrative duties, maintenance and related assignments as required
Performs duties at reception including admissions and registrations
Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Guard or Aquatics Coordinator, or designate
 
Qualifications:
Minimum Grade Twelve education or working towards Diploma;
Must be at least 18 years of age;
Current certification in Aquatic Emergency Care or Standard First Aid and CPR-C;
Water Safety Instructor certification;
National Lifeguard Service Award;
Lifesaving Instructor certification would be an asset;
Must have valid Class 5 driver’s license;
Equivalent combination of education and experience are also considered;
Successful candidates will be required to provide a criminal records check including vulnerable sector, child welfare intervention check and a driver’s abstract. 
 
Salary range is: $41,702.17 to $52,127.71
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Lac La Biche County offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, including a pension plan. Dental and Alberta Healthcare premiums are 100% paid by the County.

Nature & Scope:  The Aquatics Supervisor reports to the Aquatics Manager and works collaboratively with all YMCA staff and volunteers. The successful applicant will lead the Tong Louie Family YMCA Aquatics staff team with a primary focus on aquatics programming and maintaining a safe aquatic environment.  The Aquatics Supervisor will be responsible for delivering on our vision of building a community in which a generation of children and families reach their full potential.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

·         Present a safe aquatic environment by ensuring the aquatic staff follow the aquatic safety plan and all relevant policies and procedures

·         Develop and implement strategies that achieve and sustain program growth for aquatic programming.

·         Ensure the provision of a safe aquatic environment through the hiring, supervision and training of lifeguards, instructors and volunteers.

·         Role model service standards and provide leadership through direct service delivery, with a focus on program quality and participant engagement.

·         Work in conjunction with the Health & Fitness, and Child & Youth departments to ensure program convenience and access for all members of the family.

·         Explore and develop community partnership opportunity with the goal of increasing the breadth of YMCA programs and services.

·         Progressively evaluate and adjust current programming to meet the needs of YMCA members.

·         Lead a team of approximately 50 staff and volunteers.

·         Provide key leadership on the implementation of the YMCA’s seven priority service standards of: convenience; cleanliness and maintenance of facilities and equipment; safety; friendly and welcoming; building positive relationships; and ensure staff/volunteers are engaged and knowledgeable.

·         Manage to targets in annual operating plans and budgets.

·         Provide strategic leadership as a member of the Tong Family YMCA Leadership Team.

Requirements:

·         Post‐secondary education in a related field

The Arbutus Club, one of Canada’s finest Private Family Clubs, is hiring a PART-TIME LIFEGUARD / INSTRUCTOR. 

 

DUTIES:

  • The Lifeguard/Instructor is responsible for the safety and instruction of Club Members and Guests using the Aquatic and Spa Facilities during Swim Lessons, General Swim times and Special Events;

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must have current National Lifeguard Service (pool option) certification, CPR Level C, Water Safety Instructor certification and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and Standard First Aid and Occupational First Aid Level 1;
  • Successful candidates will have previous experience as a Lifeguard/Instructor;
  • Must possess sound knowledge of the rules and regulations governing safety in an indoor Aquatic/Spa facility’ 
  • A minimum of one year’s experience instructing the Red Cross Swim Program;
  • Knowledge and practice of Lifesaving, Lifeguarding, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid; 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of service situations in a busy aquatic facility;

This position is part of the Bargaining Unit at a starting wage rate of $17.18 per hour.  We require availability for all hours/days, especially weekends, and 10-20 hours per week.
