Reporting directly to the Aquatic Manager and the Aquatic Supervisors, the Community Outreach Aquatic Program Leaderwill assist the Aquatic Manager in the provision of aquatic instructional or recreation programs, and is a key team member to the Aquatics Department at the Kelowna Family YMCA.
The Community Outreach Aquatic Program Leader is responsible for running Lake Country Swimming Lessons, Aquatic Seal Camps, and Advanced Aquatic Courses. This position is also responsible for organizing community events such as the Apple Triathlon and Across the Lake Swim, as well as volunteers, and instilling the Y’s core values of caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, and inclusiveness. The Community Outreach Aquatic Program Leader will provide support to all lifeguard and instructional staff working at the Kelowna Family YMCA and Lake Country waterfronts. TheCommunity Outreach Aquatic Program Leaderensures on-duty aquatic staff work effectively, programs operate safely, and Kelowna Family YMCA facility and Lake Country beachfronts are properly prepared for the enjoyment and satisfaction of all participants.
Major Responsibilities and Abilities:
Teach swimming lessons as required at Kelowna Family Y and rural areas in the community
Plan and teach advanced aquatic courses
Lifeguard and supervise water activities
Plan and lead aquatic related special events at Kelowna Family Y and rural areas in the community
Serve as a role model and demonstrate YMCA Core Values
Ability to work independently and make decisions
National Lifeguard Service Certification-Pool Option
Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C
AED Responder (Must be Lifesaving Society certification)
YMCA Canada Swim Instructor
Completion of Grade 12 (Post- Secondary Student Position)
Full time Post Secondary student enrolled in both the 2014/15 and 2015/16 school year
A minimum of One (1) year lifeguarding and teaching experience
Upon request provide 3 references. A minimum of 2 will be professional in nature (eg. Employer, Supervisor or Colleague)
A satisfactory Criminal Record Check.Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than [six (6) months] preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
