Reporting to the Program Supervisor, The Aquatic Coordinator will provide overall leadership to all aspects of Aquatic instruction, programming and safety at the branch. This full-time position is responsible for ensuring excellence in member service through the leadership and administration of all Aquatic Programs at the Westhills Branch. Working as a member of the Health and Fitness leadership team, the incumbent's responsibilities will include a focus on maintaining a safe aquatic environment, staff development, and coordinating the delivery of all programs in the aquatic environment. A willingness to work a flexible schedule is required. The 35 hour work week for this position will be Sunday - Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday and includes at least one evening and the ability to work some statutory holidays and cover opening/closing shifts.
This role is classified as a Permanent Full-Time position and qualifies for 22 days paid vacation, a YMCA-YWCA individual membership as well as a cost chared group benefits plan after the probationary period.
Implement and practice effective health, safety, security and risk management legislation, policies and procedures including BC Guidelines for Safe Swimming Pool Operation
Assist the program manager with the recruitment, training, coaching and supervision, recognition of volunteers and staff
Monitor commitment to service excellence by role modelling and maintaining YMCA SAM 2.1 standards
Direct delivery of programs and classes as appropriate
Monitor and manager the relevant area budget
Contribute as a member of the leadership team in the operation of the Branch
Serve as the Building Supervisor/Duty Manager as required
Provides leadership to the Strong Kids Campaign as requested
Adhere to YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
Minimum 2 years relevant supervisory experience
University degree or college diploma in a related field
Experience lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons and aquatic fitness preferred
Excellent customer service skills, leadership skills and initiative
Strong computer skills; a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and CLASS is preferred
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Current certification of the following qualifications:
Standard First Aid and CPR-C
National Lifeguard - Pool or Waterpark Option
YMCA Swim Instructor (or RC Water Safety Instructor)
LS Lifesaving Instructors
YMCA or BCRPA Aquatic Fitness an asset and will be required
Salary 34,000-46,000 commensurate with experience.
