The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for auxiliary Recreation Worker IV – Lifeguard/Instructors to join our team of professionals in the Recreation, Culture and Parks Division.  The focus of this position is to provide lifeguarding functions as well as instructional duties for a variety of aquatic programs.

 

Current copies of all the following certifications are required to be considered for this position:

 

  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
  • LSS NLS - Pool and Water Park Option certifications
  • Standard First Aid certification
  • CPR Level C certification
  • AED certificate (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Successful candidates must be a minimum of 17 years

 

Qualified, short-listed candidates will undergo a practical assessment of their skills.

 

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety) and requires a criminal record check prior to employment start date. 

 

The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $20.45 – $23.96 per hour (2011 rates), plus 12 % in lieu of benefits.  The hours of work are varied, including a variety of shifts on nights, weekends and statutory holidays.

Situation:

The Langara Family YMCA serves approx. 8,000 members through its health and membership programs in a 45,000 square foot facility.

Features of the facility include a 25-metre pool, on-deck whirlpool, sauna and steam room, a conditioning center, childminding center, racquetball courts, gymnasium and fitness centre.

Nature & Scope:

Reporting directly to the Aquatics Director, the aquatic instructor is a member of the Health, Fitness and Recreation team responsible for providing safe, fun and educational programs to participants of the YMCA in accordance with the Association’s mission, values and YMCA Canada Priority SAM Standards.  We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in Parent and Tot and Preschool Swimming Lessons.  This position may also include lifeguarding depending on scheduling and availability.

 

Responsibilities:(including, but not limited to)

 

  • To maintain a positive and professional approach and image with members, volunteers and staff.
  • To role model the YMCA’s position on volunteerism.
  • To directly address member concerns and liaison those concerns to director.
  • To control and maintain the safety of the participants in the pool and hot areas, this includes the locker room and spectator viewing areas.
  • To provide direct leadership to program delivery in aquatics and ensure program content meets the appropriate criteria and outline.
  • Developing lesson plans and administering progressive evaluations.
  • To promote and encourage developmental assets.
  • To ensure program design and layout meets the needs of all participants.
  • Work as a part of the team to ensure a clean and well-maintained facility at all times.
  • Perform all mandatory administration duties and records.

Qualifications:

  • One to two years experience in program instruction is preferred.
  • Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification.
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid.
  • Current certification in CPR level C.
  • YMCA Instructors certification (preferred).
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification an asset.
  • YMCA Aquafitness Instructor certification or equivalent (preferred).
  • Criminal reference check.
  • Advanced leadership courses are desirable:
    • NLS Instructor
    • RLSSC Lifesaving Instructor
    • NLS Recert Conductor

Lifeguard/Summer Camp Counselor

Position available for student, age 16-30, returning to school in September 2012 (to meet funding requirements from Young Canada Works).

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre is seeking Summer Camp Lifeguard/Counselor for our summer camp program, Camp Friendship.

If you are a enthusiatic, energetic, fun-loving, responsible team player interested in learning more about Aboriginal culture while working with some great kids, then this could be the job for you!

Lifeguarding duties will be for 2 hours per day (on average), acting as Camp Counselor when not lifeguarding. Some flexibility for those also lifeguarding for the city. Position runs June through August, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.

The PGNFC's summer camp program, Camp Friendship NO-COST summer programming to over 190 aboriginal and non-aboriginal children from low-income families, ages 6-13. This is a great opportunity to get involved in your community this summer while meeting some great people and having a positive impact on the lives of many children from the Prince George area.

Relief Waterfront Staff for Summer 2012

Life Guards are on staff May through to August. You will be on call to cover lifeguarding duties when one of the full-time staff are unavailable. Due to transportation issues, ideally, you will live on the Sunshine Coast.

With over 1500 meters of ocean beach overlooking the scenic Gulf Islands this position will allow you to play an important part in the girls’ fun, friendship, adventure and discovery at the camp. Our camp has been operating for 85 years providing a variety of camping experiences for girls.

You will report to the Summer Staff Supervisor and in this position your responsibility will be to assist the waterfront director to ensure the safety of participants during waterfront activities
