The Vancouver International Children’s Festival is looking for an individual to run our First Aid Tent at Sutcliffe Park behind Granville Island on the following dates:

 

Monday May 28th - Friday June 1st         9am - 3pm          site hours 9:30am - 2:30pm

Saturday June 2nd                                      10am - 6:30pm  site hours 10:30am - 6pm

Sunday June 3rd                                         10am - 5:30pm  site hours 10:30am - 5pm

 

Compensation is $1,000 for the week.

 

Primarily the role entails taking care minor cuts and scratches and supervising our volunteers in terms of lost children/parent protocols. We have a 10x10 1st Aid Tent set up in our fenced off activity area in Sutcliffe Park, so we don’t deal with medical needs for regular Granville Island visitors, and it is equipped with a Level 2 kit. As well we have radios for the Supervisor and up to 5 volunteers. We provide the volunteers and they have Level 1 tickets.

Aquatic Leader

Job Description: 

The Aquatic Leader is responsible for lifeguarding and providing instruction in a variety of aquatic and first aid programs and activities. The Aquatic Leader will assist the Aquatic Program Coordinator in developing aqautic and first aid programs and services, and establish procedures related to the departments operation. Ancillary responsibilities relate to record keeping, cashiering, custodial duties and other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Duties:

-Performs lifeguard duties in an alert and conscientious manner ensuring the safety of patrons using the facility.

-Provides first aid when necessary and responds to emergency situationa in accordance to established procedures

-Performs regular safety checkson all instructional, first aid, and rescue equipment 

-Provides professional and courteous customer service to patrons. Ensures patron safety and enjoyment of the facility by enforcing established facility rules and polcies in a positive manner.

-Provides instruction in aquatic and recreation activities or programs

-Prepares and maintains a variety of records related to the work

-Performs relief front office duties including accepting admissions, preparing and selling concession items, accepting bookings and registrations for programs, answrring telephones and other similar duties

-Maintains the cleanliness of the facility by performing routine janitorial and cleaning duties as required.

-Assists in the planning and coorsinating of special events and programs.

Participates in regular inservice training

-Provides leadership and direction to other staff on duty. Ensures assigned tasksare completed, and that staff on duty adhere to departmental policies, practices, and procedures.

-Provides leadership to other staff at inservice training sessions and may assist in the development of emergency procedures and the training of staff in same.

-Reports to maintenance any reported or suspected water chemistry or mechanical problems.

-Assists the Aquatic Program Coordinator with the development and implementationof programs, special events and activities related to the department

-Assists the Aquatic Program Coordinator with the preparation of work schedules, staff assignments, procedures and record keeping as related to the department

-Assists the Aquatic Program Coordinator with the orientation and training of aquatic staff

-Performs related duties as required.
