Do you enjoy working with the public as a role model in a fun and friendly manner? Are you passionate about water safety and teaching swimming to various age groups?  The City of Burnaby is actively recruiting Lifeguard Instructor - Aquatics to join their team.
The City of Burnaby has eight (4 indoor and 4 outdoor) pools. Indoor pools can be found at Bonsor Recreation Complex, CG Brown Pool, Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool and Edmonds Community Centre; seasonal outdoor pools are located at Central Park, Kensington Park, MacPherson Park, and Robert Burnaby Park.
Duties of an Auxiliary Lifeguard/Instructor - Aquatics will include instructing aquatic programs to all ages, water surveillance and public relations, as well as participating in rescues and first aid when required. Other responsibilities include pool maintenance and cleaning duties, completing reports related to daily tasks, and performing other related duties as required.
The following certifications are required and must be current at time of the screening:

  1. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
  2. Lifesaving Society Instructor
  3. National Lifeguard
  4. CPR – Level C (current within 1 year)

BCRPA Aquatic Fitness certificate, Pool Operator’s Level 1 & 2 certificate, and valid Class 5 License for the Province of British Columbia are considered assets.

We are hiring to fill the following days and hours, you must be available to work a minimum of 2 shifts per week

  • Monday to Friday 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (one or more day per week) or
  • Saturday & Sunday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM (one or more day on the weekend)

If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to a screening session held Saturday Sept 7, 2019 evaluating your NL physical standards, lifeguarding skills in simulations, SwimKids 10 level strokes and Red Cross teaching skills.  Selected candidates will be invited for an interview; those successful must attend mandatory general and site-specific orientations and training
Wage: $23.44 per hour with 12% paid in lieu of benefits (Pay Grade 13).
