Job Description: 

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual for the one-year term position of Aquatic Leader at the Creston & District Community Complex!

 

The Aquatic Leader (AL), is a member of the Aquatics leadership team. The AL provides operational supervision of the aquatic area (pools, deck, change rooms, steam room, viewing area, etc.) and monitors pool use to ensure that the daily operation is following department policies and safety standards. In addition, this position provides mentorship to staff, lifeguards and instructs, performs a variety of custodial and facility maintenance tasks and assists with the operation and delivery of aquatic programs, recreation programs and special events. This role requires the individual to demonstrate strong leadership abilities and possess a functional knowledge of pool chemistry and operating procedures. The successful candidate will possess communication, leadership, and teamwork skills, and demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

 Current National Lifeguard Award – Pool Option (NL)

 Current Standard First Aid (SFA or equivalent)

 Current CPR “C” (recert annually)

 Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

 Current Lifesaving Instructor (LSI)

 Grade 12 Diploma, GED or currently enrolled in school

 Satisfactory criminal record

 Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in lifeguarding

 Knowledge of the lifeguarding rules, regulations and practices

 Demonstrated teamwork and leadership abilities with an ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and members of the public

 

This is a one year, full-time term position beginning in February 2020 and ending in February 2021. The successful applicant must be available to work a varied schedule which includes day, weekend, and/or evening shifts. The current rate of pay is $20.12 per hour, with a higher rate paid when instructing advanced leadership courses.
