Duties & Responsibilities
We are hiring permanent Part-Time Lifeguards / Instructors within our Aquatics Department. Shifts will vary depending upon operational needs but must be available for at least (2) shifts per week and must attend (2) In Services per year. The duties will include the following:

  • Responsible for the safety and instruction of Club Members and Guests using the Aquatic and Spa Facilities during Swim Lessons, Genperal Swim times and Special Events
  • First responder in case of an emergency and providing First Aid as needed throughout The Club;
  • Perform maintenance and related work, as required
  • Passion for teaching Swimming Lessons and working with children

Requirements & Qualifications

  • National Lifeguard certification - Pool Option, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Standard First Aid/CPR C
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 – to be obtained within 3 months of employment
  • Life Saving Instructor and Aquafit Instructor Awards an asset
  • Must possess sound knowledge of the rules and regulations governing safety in an indoor Aquatic/Spa facility
  • Minimum of 1-year experience instructing the Red Cross Swim Program or program equivalent
  • Knowledge and practice of Lifesaving, Lifeguarding, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of service situations in a busy aquatic facility

Reporting directly to the Aquatic Supervisors and Manager, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard is a key team member to the Aquatic Department.

Reporting directly to the Aquatic Supervisor, the FlowRider®/Slide Attendant is a key team member to the Aquatic Department at the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre.  FlowRider®/Slide Attendant is responsible for the proper use and safety of the FlowRider® and water slides, and instilling the Y’s core values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty. The FlowRider®/Slide Attendant is part of a large dynamic aquatic team and has the opportunity to teach YMCA swim lessons on an as-needed basis.  In addition, the FlowRider®/Slide Attendant will maintain a safe and clean work environment and provide an enjoyable experience, while building healthy relationships with our members.
 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the operation and safety of the FlowRider® and the waterslides
  • Deliver aquatic programs occurring during assigned shifts (lessons or aquatic programs and courses)
  • Monitors the general safety and maintenance of the pool deck, change rooms and associated areas, and either reports concerns to the appropriate staff members or directly address the concerns
  • Organizes and coordinates drop in programs, activities, games and events of the interest to participants
  • Conducts routine inspections for the facility’s public areas and equipment to ensure customer safety
  • Work as a cooperative part of the staff/volunteer team

 

Qualifications:

  • Lifesaving Society Bronze cross
  • National Lifeguard Service Certification Pool (Or ability to obtain, an asset)
  • National Lifeguard Service Certification Waterpark (Or ability to obtain, an asset)

Langley City - Lifeguard/Instructor - Al Anderson Memorial Pool

Applications are invited for Casual Lifeguard/Instructors to work in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Lifeguard/Instructors are responsible for promoting participation in aquatic activities, public relations, supervision of the public within the pool complex, assisting with special events, and preparing and completing plans, records, and forms at the beginning and end of instructional sessions. 

 

The assignments start May 6, 2019 and end August 30, 2019.  In-Service training is May 6 to 9, 2019 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.   Applicants must be available on these dates.  Candidates who have been selected for interview will be required to attend a Wet Interview on Sunday, April 7, 2019.  Those Candidates successful in the Wet Interview will be required to attend a Dry Interview scheduled between April 10 and 12, 2019.

 

RATE OF PAY:             Lifeguard/Instructor: $27.25 - $28.10 per hour

 

HOURS OF WORK:   Up to 40 hours per week. 

                                   (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends)

 

Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid annual vacation.

 

A valid Standard First Aid Certificate, National Lifesaving Award, Basic Rescuer CPR, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, and Lifesaving Instructor Award are required. Previous experience at Al Anderson Memorial Pool and Aquafit Instructor Certification are desired.
