Returning To Aquatics

We frequently receive inquiries from individuals who completed their Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard many years ago and want to return to aquatics.  If you completed your courses prior to 1991 and have since lost your certification cards, you will need to complete the course(s) again as the BC & Yukon record data base only goes back as far as 1991.

The Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross exam can be challenged, however, the Standard First Aid and National Lifeguard full courses will have to be taken again if no proof of prerequisite can be provided.

Lifesaving Instructors, National Lifeguard Instructors and First Aid Instructors who are  who are under 5 years from the date of issue can recertify by attending an LSI, NLI or FAI Recert clinic.  Instructors who are 5-9 years from the date of issue must complete a Bridges package.  Instructors who are over 10 years from the date of issue must retake the full Instructor course(s) again.

For information on the Bridges package, click 'Training Programs', select the appropriate stream (Lifesaving, Lifeguarding or First Aid) and look for Bridges under the Leadership heading.

Please contact the Branch office for more assistance as we're always pleased to help experienced aquatic workers get back into the field.
