NLS Waterpark
The NLS Waterpark certification builds on the fundamental knowledge, skills and values taught in the NLS Pool & Core option to train lifeguards in safety supervision and rescue in a waterpark environment.

2012 NLS Waterpark Physical Standards
- Starting in deep water, roll over an unconscious victim with a suspected spinal injury indeep water. Carry the victim 15 metres while maintaining immobilization and supportingthe victim’s mouth and nose above the water.
- Starting in the water, demonstrate a 15 metre head up approach to contact a distressedvictim in deep water; carry the victim 10 metres supporting head and shoulders abovewater.

24 hours including water and classroom time.
Taught by a current NLS Waterpark Instructor.
A temporary certification card is issued on the last day of course to successful candidates that have shown all pre-requisites. A permanent Certification Card will be mailed to the address indicated on the course roster. Contact the Lifesaving Society if a permanent card has not been received within 60 days of course completion.
NLS Waterpark is current for 2 years. Candidates can recertify within 7 years from the last certification date.
Please note that the Lifesaving Society does not grant extensions.
- Distinguish between a waterpark and other aquatic facilities. Identify the increased potential for danger in a waterpark.

Demonstrate an understanding of safety considerations and effective lifeguarding for the following types of slides:
- Moderate slides
- High-speed slides
- Drop-off slides
- Free-fall slides
- "Kiddie" slides

Demonstrate an understanding of safety considerations and effective lifeguarding for river rides, including:
- Continuous rivers
- Stop-and-go rivers
- Slow rivers
- Activity rivers
- Demonstrate an understanding of safety considerations and effective lifeguarding for wave pools.
- Walk through a waterpark, evaluate the on-going activities, and identify potential hazards.
- Demonstrate entries and removals appropriate to wave pools, slides, catch basins, and other waterpark apparatus.
- Demonstrate an effective search of a waterpark for a missing person.
- As a member of a team, perform a rescue of a victim with a suspected spinal injury who is located in a catch basin, wave pool, flume, or who has fallen from a height.
- As a member of a team, perform a rescue of an injured victim in a water slide flume.
- Respond to emergency situations as a single lifeguard or as a member of a lifeguard team.
