NLS Instructor
The National Lifeguard Service® (NLS) Instructor course prepares candidates to teach and evaluate NLS Pool, NLS Waterpark, NLS Waterfront and NLS Surf. Instructor candidates learn specific strategies designed to train lifeguards in advanced rescue techniques, public relations issues and first aid, as well as how to present material that will prepare lifeguards for any major aspect of supervising the public in an aquatic setting. Upon completion of the required apprenticeship, NLS Instructors can teach any NLS Option they hold.

All NLS Instructor courses are run through the Branch office and held at various locations across the province. Interested candidates must fill out an application and submit to the Branch for approval. Once approved and payment is received, all NLS Instructor course materials including the pre-course assignment will be sent out.
Pre-course assignments will take a minimum of 10 hours to complete. The NLS-I course is 32 hours of both classroom and pool time, and is taught and evaluated by a current NLS Instructor Trainer.
Once the candidate has successfully completed the course and apprenticeship, the Branch will make the appointment of NLS Instructor in all options held. Please keep a copy of apprenticeship forms.
