Description: 

Lifesaving NL Instructors who hold a current Lifesaving Instructor Trainer certification can apply to become a National Lifeguard Instructor Trainer.  Candidates will have to successfully complete a minimum of 1 NLI Course Apprenticeship prior to appointment.

National Lifeguard Instructor Trainers can facilitate the NL Instructor Course, NL Instructor Recertification and act as a Mentor for NL Instructor Apprentices.

Prerequisites:
National Lifeguard Pool Current
NL Recert Conductor Have evaluated at least 4 NL Recerts
NL Instructor Current
Have taught at least 4 NL courses
Instructional Time: 

Candidates must apprentice on a minimum of 1 NL Instructor course (32 hours) with a current and qualified NLIT.

Recognition: 

Certification card is sent upon appointment as an NL Instructor Trainer.  The certification date will be linked to the NLI certification date.

Currency: 

NLIT certification is valid for 2 years from the date of issue.  NLITs recertify by attending and participating in an NLI/NLIT Recertification.

Evaluation and Other Items: 

Candidates learn about teaching strategies, planning, class management, safety supervision and the principles of evaluation from a 'train-the-trainer’ perspective.
