Lifesaving Fitness
The Lifesaving Fitness award teaches the importance of physical fitness in lifesaving. The award is designed for participants of all ages to learn how to measure, monitor and maintain personal physical fitness for lifesaving emergencies.

10 hours consisting of both dry and wet sessions.
Candidates must perform all items at the Bronze, Silver or Gold level to obtain the recognition badge for that level.
Lifesaving Fitness is taught and evaluated by a current Lifesaving Instructor. Certification is issued by the Lifesaving Instructor.
Lifesaving Fitness does not expire.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to evaluate and improve strength and endurance fitness for lifesaving and physical activity.
- Demonstrate ability to evaluate intensity of activity and personal strength.
- Demonstrate rescue breathing for a period of 3 min. at poolside or dockside (victim and rescuer in deep water) with a victim of the candidate's choice or with a suitable device (manikin or equivalent),

With a dive start, swim any stroke 25 m or 25 yd. or 20 yd.
- Bronze 25 m in :22 or 25 yd. in 22, or 20 yd in :16
- Silver 25 m in :18 or 25 yd. in 16, or 20 yd in :13
- Gold 25 m in :15 or 25 yd. or 13, 20 yd in :10

With a dive start, swim any stroke 200 m or 200 yd.
- Bronze 200 m in 5:30, or 200 yd. in 5:00
- Silver 200 m in 4:25, or 200 yd. in 4:00
- Gold 200 m in 3:20, or 200 yd. in 3:00
- Demonstrate ability to get out of the water onto a pool deck or dock using only the arms to lift self from the water and place one foot on the deck or dock.

Tread water while supporting a 4,5-kg or 10lb object at the surface with one or two hands.

- Remove a 9-kg or 20-lb. object located at a depth of 3 m or yd. and at a distance of 3 m or yd. from the dock or poolside; surface, carry and place on dock or deck.

Tow a passive victim 50m, or yd. with a suitable buoyant device (e.g., ring buoy, kickboard, rescue can or tube); rescuer and victim to start in the water.
