Welcome to the BC & Yukon Branch Competition Information Pages
If you are not already familiar with them, lifesaving sport events combine the speed of competitive swimming with the techniques of lifesaving. They provide new challenges and training opportunity for all levels of swimmers. Competitors are expected to swim various distances, recover submerged manikins, tow manikins, and utilize special rescue fins during their events. We have only recently begun holding these competitions within BC, however they are internationally recognized and have been slated as a demonstration event at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. We currently have many Canadian athletes that regularly compete at the International level, however like any sport; we are trying to broaden our athlete pool to help increase its growth.
Previous knowledge of the events is not required nor expected. In fact, being that this event is in its infancy, the day will be very much a learning experience for all attending. Event rules and tips from former National team members will be available prior to each race. All equipment will be provided to competitors. For swimmers to be eligible to compete, they must hold a minimum Bronze Medallion certification. For swimmers to be eligible to attend the National Championships on the rep. team, they must hold a National Lifeguard Service award.
