IRONMAN Canada - NLS Waterfront Lifeguards

Closing date:
August 18, 2013
Job Description:

We are currently recruiting volunteer NLS Waterfront Lifeguards for IRONMAN Canada in Whistler on August 25th!

Come and help keep the waters of Alta Lake safe for these exceptional athletes!

The swim portion of the Ironman is a distance of 2.4 miles (3.86 km) around Alta Lake, beginning and ending at Rainbow Park beach. The swim is supported by emergency-responders such as doctors, paramedics, nurses, lifeguards, jet-skiers, paddle-boarders, boaters. As you would expect, IRONMAN Canada has a comprehensive risk-management plan in place, and the waterfront lifeguards are an important component of that plan.

Waterfront Lifeguard volunteers are responsible for the recognition of an athlete in trouble in the water, signaling to other rescue personnel, and facilitating the removal of the victim to a piloted personal watercraft. The lifeguard then provides primary care while medical personnel provide immediate backup from their watercraft. Volunteers may also assist in some setup, takedown and other tasks as required. Volunteers will also be requested to attend a site-specific safety orientation and training session close to the event event, date and time tbd.

As a requirement of the volunteer position, the successful applicant must hold a current National Lifeguard Service Award – Waterfront Option and must obtain a satisfactory criminal record check prior to beginning employment.
