Position and requirements: Volunteer Lifeguard & Staff Member (must be 18 or older, current NLS poolside certification required or must be currently completing ceritifcations and requires lifeguard experience). We are looking for someone who is interested in working with youth in a hard-working, engaged and fun environment!

About the program: The YES (Youth Excellence Society) is a summer camp that provides weeklong leadership retreats for youth from across BC. Skills training is offered for youth 14-18 years old in the areas of self-awareness, co-operations, communication, leadership, environemental sustainability and global awareness. Participants take part in the creation of a strong community built on support, care and respect that facilitates the growth of the summer camp experience. Not only is The YES Camp give youth the opportunity to learn and grown, it's also tons of fun! From canoeing and hiking, to arts and crafts, we have many options for fun activities each day.

Where? Cowichan Lake Education Centre, Cowichan Lake on Vancouver Island (about an hour south of Nanaimo). Transportation is provided to and from camp from various locations across the province.

When? July 27th - August 2nd and August 3rd - 9th (position available for one or two weeks)

Staff training: June 27th - 29th, this is a chance to bond with other staff, receive high quality training in facilitation and leadership, and take part in an amazing team-building weekend. Participation is an asset, but not required.

Honorarium: $300 (depending on experience). Meals, accommodation and transportation is also included.

Lifeguard needed for youth summer camp!

The YES Camp is looking for a volunteer lifeguard for two of our leadership summer camp programs from July 27th to August 2nd and/or August 3rd to 9th (one week or two week position available).


The YES (Youth Excellence Society) is a youth (14-18) leadership summer camp that focuses on creating an environment of care and respect. We are looking for someone 18 or older who is a certified lifeguard (NLS Pool option) or is currently completing their certifications and require lifeguarding experience and has an interest in working with youth in a fun, engaged and hard-working environment. This position will include participating in running leadership sessions for camp participants, being the designated lifeguard on duty during certain times of the day and engaging with/helping out other camp staff and participants.

The camp is located at Cowichan Lake on Vancouver Island (about an hour south of Nanaimo). Transportation is provided to and from camp from the Okanagan (Kelowna), Merritt, Hope, Vancouver Lower Mainland (Abbotsford, Vancouver, Horseshoe Bay), and Nanaimo. 

This is a volunteer position, but staff members do receive a small memorandum at the end of their week at camp, and lifeguards receive an additional amount on top of this. Accommodation and all meals/snacks are also provided.

All staff members are expected to attend a staff-training weekend in North Vancouver from June 26th to June 29th. If this is not possible, please indicate so in your e-mail.

BC Taekwon-do Championship Seeks First Aid Volunteers

 2014 BC Taekwon-do Championship Cup

SFU West Gym, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby, BC

The "BC Cup" is one of two provincial Taekwon-do Championships sanctioned by the ITF of BC. This year it will be held at the beautiful new SFU west Gym in Burnaby, BC and  will take place on October 12, 2014. Competitors will be coming from all over BC and competition will be especially hot this year as Junior and Senior Black Belts from around the province hone their skills in preparation for selections for Team Canada going to the 2015 World Championships in Italy!

A first in this tournament is the introduction of the Challenger Patterns event for our Challenged students. This is in line with the ITF philosophy of teaching anyone who are willing to learn.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please let us know by emailing 2014bccup@gmail.com and registration details will be sent to you. Free meals will be provided for volunteers as well as volunteer certification if needed.

You will be required to show proof of certification/licensure or registration documentation. If you are volunteering with a friend or family member and you wish to be placed together, please let me know.

If you do not have current first aid certification but would like to volunteer, we invite you to register as well because there are other volunteer positions such as timers, runners, timers, security, etc.

Ride to Conquer Cancer - Medical Volunteer Opportunity

 The Ride, occurring over June 14th & 15th, 2014, is an epic 2 day cycling journey from Vancouver to Seattle. During this amazing weekend, thousands join together to Ride in the battle against cancer.  Currently we are in need of Medical Volunteers to assist our Riders. I’m contacting the Lifesaving Society in the hopes that we can work together to disseminate information about our Medical Volunteer opportunities and work together to make this year more successful than any other in our mission to conquer cancer.

Presently, we are recruiting Medical Volunteers to join our crew team. The Medical Crew Team are comprised of a variety of medical professionals, and students. This team provides all first-aid medical services to participants at Opening Ceremonies, Camp and Closing Ceremonies, and will provide emergency service where necessary until local EMS/Paramedics arrive on scene. The Medical Crew are dedicated volunteers who commit their entire weekend to helping support the cyclists through their journey.

Volunteering as part of the Crew you get to be a part of the whole weekend and camp out at the event (in Mount Vernon, WA) with the Riders. Crew Members also get the same perks as the Riders do including:  Hot Meals, Overnight Tent accommodation, Live Entertainment at Camp and access to the Massage & Yoga Tents!  

Our Volunteers are rewarded by knowing how much their efforts mean to the thousands of men and women who are embarking their cancer-conquering journey. Joining the Medical Team is an amazing teambuilding opportunity and a chance to be involved in an important community event. Medical Team Volunteers for Concrete Hero

The BC Cancer Foundation is seeking First Responder / Medical Volunteers for a BRAND NEW EVENT: 2013 CONCRETE HERO.

Concrete Hero occurring on Sunday, September 29th, 2013 is the ultimate urban obstacle challenge, benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation. The event unites hundreds of individuals who run in hope, to commemorate life, to honour lives lost, to celebrate survival and to contribute to finding a cure.  We would love to have  Lifeguards volunteering with our Medical Team helping our Participants.

The Medical team provides all first-aid medical services to our participants.
As we are an Obstacle Challenge the medical volunteers get the added bonus of being on the front lines of all the action & excitement. They will be positioned at our 9 different obstacles helping participants to :
• Leap over Fire
• Swing across "Lost Lagoon"
• Scale “The Chief”
• Battle Zombies


Volunteers are rewarded by knowing how much their efforts mean to the hundreds of men and women who are embarking on their cancer conquering mission. Joining the Medical Team is an amazing teambuilding opportunity and a chance to be involved in an important community event.
