With excitement and energy building toward Lifesaving Society Canada hosting the World Conference on Drowning Prevention in Vancouver this October, here’s your chance to be involved.  Many volunteers are required to put on this ‘best-ever’ conference and we know that Lifesaving Society volunteers are the best!  Consider your skills and apply for one of the following positions:

  • Shuttle Driver - driving 8 person vans donated by Coquitlam Chrysler as needed; knowledge of Metro Vancouver essential, Class 4 license preferred, current driver’s abstract required.
  • Safety & Security Team Member - assisting with security and acting as a leader in case of emergency
  • Host Team Member - greeting and assisting delegates; second language a great asset
  • Registration Team Member - assisting with delegate registration process
  • Room Monitor - ensuring smooth function within presentation rooms, checking for authorization
  • Audio Visual Support - ensuring smooth presentations in regard to A/V; high level of computer and PowerPoint knowledge essential
  • Social Media Team Member - supporting Marketing Committee in digital marketing initiatives

Purpose:The Public Education Advisory Group Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of the Lifesaving BC & Yukon by supporting the activities of the Branch in Public Education.

 

Term of Office:
Appointed by the Public Education Advisory Group Chair, for a term of 2 years.

Are chosen for their subject matter expertise, experience and representation of Branch affiliates.

 

Reporting Relationship:

Public Education Advisory Group as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes annual objectives for their portfolio/ project.
  • Manages approved projects within pre-set budget limits and new product development guidelines.
  • Leads the project’s including:
    • Recruits project members
    • Assigns project responsibilities
    • Recognizes volunteer members
  • Attends Advisory Group meetings as scheduled and the Annual General Meeting.
  • Reports to Advisory Group as scheduled on the status of the portfolio’s annual objectives.
  • Prepares an annual report on the portfolio’s accomplishments.

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Experience:

  • Possession of the following knowledge, skills and experience will enable the selected applicant to perform the major job functions successfully.
  • Proven experience, knowledge of or interest in project subject matter
  • Experience with volunteer groups or associations would be an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills and collaborative work ethic.
  • Educational background in Lifesaving Sport, Lifeguard Competitions, Coaching is an asset, but not a requirement.
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification is recommended, but not a requirement.

Ironman Canada First Aid Responders

 We are looking for any volunteers who have valid first aid certification or healthcare license who are interested in joining us. This could also be a good opportunity for those who are interested in medicine, nursing, paramedical and/or emergency responder careers.   Treasurer Position (Volunteer)

The Aquafit for All  Association(AFA) is currently looking for a volunteer Treasurer to help with the administrative needs of the organization. In this role, you will be required to attend monthly board meetings, and will spend a maximum of 5-6 hours per month completing financial and record-keeping tasks for the organization. A priority of the position will be aiding in the completion of the charity status application for the organization. Mininum 1 year commitment.
 
Responsibilities of the role include:
  • Manages finances of the organization
  • Administrates fiscal matters of the organization
  • Provides annual budget to the board for members’ approval
  • Ensures development and board review of financial policies and procedures
  • Regularly attends monthly board meetings and important related meetings
  • Participates in fund-raising, special events, and promotional activities for the organization
  • Qualifications for the role include:
  • Experience with basic accounting, financial record-keeping, and tax submissions
  • Experience with aquatic fitness is an asset
  • Agree to and pass a police record review
Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred
This is a volunteer position with great opportunity to learn the different aspects of managing a non-profit organization. You will have chances to communicate with other organizations, get to know board members, give back to the community, as well as take part in planning and executing our activities.
If you like, there will also be some opportunities to attend training around physical health and aid, including Aquafit or sighted-guide training both in and out of the water. The role will have on-the-job training, and board members will be available to support and help you.

Swim to Survive Day

Become a Swim to Survive Day Volunteer!

On Sunday, May 28th, 2017, the Lifesaving Society and the Lifeguard Outreach Society will bring free drowning prevention lessons to youth at Saanich Commonwealth and will conduct the Swim to Survive program. The Swim to Survive program will be provided to educate youth and parents on the risks associated with swimming and teach them survival skills essential for a safe and fun experience on the water.

Swim to Survive is a Lifesaving Society program offered across Canada that provides simple basic training in three essential skills needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water. Swim to Survive is different than swimming lessons and not a replacement for them, but an important first step to being safe around water.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals who want to help us spread the word about drowning prevention in Victoria.

Deck-side volunteers and in-water volunteers are needed to help deliver valuable water safety education and free Swim to Survive lessons to families in Victoria. If you would like to be an on-deck volunteer please click here.

Volunteers for Lifesaving Society Photoshoot!

Job Description: 

Looking for some volunteer lifeguards to take part in our photoshoot at the new UBC pool this Friday, April 21st, 2017!

You would be going through the motions of stances and rescues associated with being a lifeguard, while being photographed, therefore, a photo release will be required which you would sign on the day of the photoshoot.

What to Bring/Wear?

The Lifesaving Society will provide shirts, whistles and fanny packs.  So please bring the following:

·         Black loose fitting shorts with no logos or branding (or at least not easily visible)

·         Dark sandals or shoes also with no logos or branding (or at least not easily visible)

·         If you have long hair, it should be tied up neatly in a pony tail

·         If you have a visible tattoo, it should be covered up

·         A bathing suit
