Seasonal Lifeguard/Swim Instructors

Job Description: 

The District of Lillooet REC Centre is seeking lifeguard/swim instructors to fill 3 seasonal positions from April to July.

The District of Lillooet REC Centre Pool is a 6-lane, 25 metre, indoor pool with a diving board and 

slide. The REC Centre also features a climbing wall, weight room and gymnasium. 

 

Scope: As a Lifeguard/Swim instructor you will provide a safe, fun and welcoming environment for users. You will perform routine maintenance such as cleaning change rooms and performing regular checks of water quality and equipment functions. You will be required to teach private, group and school lessons to all ages (mainly children). You will assist with planning and running special event swims such as games days and loonie swims. You must be comfortable with a flexible work schedule and shift-work, and have the ability to work both as a member of a team and unsupervised. 

 

Hours of work: Part time to full time, shift work required, April to July. 

 

Rate of Pay: $16.87 to $18.33 per hour, based on qualifications 

 

Qualifications: 

NLS Pool Option- current within 2 years

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor- current within 2 years

Standard First or AEC - current within 2 years

CPR 'C'- current within 1 year

Preferred:

Lifesaving Instructor

Pool Operator Level 1

Yukon Seasonal Swimming Pool Managers

Job Description:

Positions are available in a variety of Yukon communities ranging in population from 100 to 2000.  

Experience 24-hour daylight, northern lights, wilderness hiking, canoeing, fishing and music festivals, while you re-live the days of the Klondike Gold Rush!

The Pool Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations and maintenance of the community pool. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Previous Lifeguard and Instructor experience
  • Basic facility operations & maintenance
  • Supervision and training of staff and volunteers
  • Basic knowledge of Yukon and BC of health & safety regulations as related to the safe operation of aquatic facilities
  • Demonstrable theory, practical skills and abilities related to water rescue, safety and prevention, program content, delivery and communication.  This includes assisting in the delivery of a wide range of innovative aquatic programs, services and events.
  • Ability to work independently as well as weekends, evenings and holidays

  • National Lifeguard (NL) Pool Option
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor (LSI)
  • Standard First Aid/CPR  Level “C”
  • Pool Operator Level I
  • WHMIS
  • Certification in Pool Operators II, Aquatic Emergency Care, Water Instructor Trainer and NLS Instructor/Examiner an asset.

Successful candidates must be available to attend the Spring Aquatics Workshop in mid-May. The workshop will provide rural Yukon pool staff with all the tricks and tools needed to have a safe and successful aquatics season.  Participants will have re-certification opportunities and receive WHMIS and Pool Operators Level 1 – Yukon Supplement certification.

Compensation:

Wages range from $22-26/hour and many communities offer extra benefits, such as accommodations and a travel subsidy.

The Yukon Government assists Yukon communities with the hiring of their staff.  Communities are responsible for interviewing and hiring applicants of their choice.  Pool Managers work for the community in which they are hired and are not Yukon government employees.
