The City of Burnaby has eight (4 indoor and 4 outdoor) pools. Indoor pools can be found at Bonsor Recreation Complex, CG Brown Pool, Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool and Edmonds Community Centre; seasonal outdoor pools are located at Central Park, Kensington Park, MacPherson Park, and Robert Burnaby Park. If you enjoy being in the water and are looking for an exciting auxiliary job as a Lifeguard Instructor Aquatics and enjoy working with people around swimming pools as part of a winning team, we’re looking for you!

 

Some of the duties of a Lifeguard Instructor Aquatics happen in both the water and on the pool deck, and may include instructing aquatic programs all ages, water surveillance and rule enforcement, as well as participating in rescues and first aid when required. Other responsibilities include chemical testing of pool water, cleaning the pool and bathrooms, completing reports related to daily tasks, and performing other related duties as required.

 

The following licences and current certifications are required:

• Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate

• Lifesaving Society Instructor Certificate

• National Lifeguard Service Award

• CPR Certificate – Level C (current within 1 year)

Aqua Fitness Certificate, AED Certificate, Pool Operator’s Certificate and valid License for the Province of British Columbia, Class 5, are considered assets.

 

Please note that a major factor in our hiring decision is your availability to work available shifts as per operational requirements. Successful candidates will need to be in the water as required.

 

If your application is shortlisted, you must attend a potential three day evaluation of your lifeguarding skills on March 16, 17 and 18. Please note there are no alternate dates. Those passing the wet-screening process must attend an interview shortly thereafter (dates to be determined), and those successful in the interview must attend a mandatory orientation (dates to be determined).

 

Wage: $22.98 per hour with 12% paid in lieu of benefits (Pay Grade 13).

·         Maintain an atmosphere of achievement that inspires self and others to succeed at the highest levels

·         Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all program areas, common spaces, and washrooms
