Successful applicant will accompany a group of students, educators, cultural resource people and qualified skipper on an ocean-going canoe for a one-hour pull.   The group will meet at the Deep Bay Harbour at 9:30am and will finish by 11:00am.  

 

Lifeguard will be paid $150.00.  This may also lead to more opportunities with our Indigenous Education Program taking students out on the canoe.  The purpose of this trip is cultural education.

Lifesaving Society National Trainer

National Trainers are current Instructor Trainers who actively teach in two (2) or more streams, have a heart to mentor and are willing to commit to the National Trainer job description (attached).  National Trainers will be delivering the Trainer course (formerly the Instructor Trainer course) which is moving away from being stream-specific. Our goal is to have a minimum of one National Trainer in each of our six (6) regions.

National Trainer Application Process:

To apply to become a National Trainer, submit a resume and cover letter outlining your interest in the position, how you currently contribute to your region and how you wish to contribute to the work of leadership development during your term as a National Trainer.

National Trainer Selection Process:

  1. Application is received by due date
  2. Applications will be reviewed by a panel
  3. Selected applicants will be interviewed
  4. Candidates for National Trainer will be selected base on: eligibility, successful interview and Branch operational needs
  5. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in the National Trainer course
  6. Successful candidates will be appointed for a period of 24 months

The Waterfront Instructor provides the expertise, experience and skills required for the safety of campers participating in all waterfront activities. The Waterfront Instructor will lifeguard swimmers and boaters on the water at all times. The Waterfront Instructor will also help with the facilitation of waterfront activities, in set-up, take down and instruction where needed. The Waterfront Instructor is an integral member of the program staff team and when there is no activity on the waterfront, the Waterfront Instructor will be re-assigned to assist in another program area. During the spring and fall season the Waterfront Instructor will often lifeguard independently and must be competent in guarding alone, making safety judgment calls and acting as the emergency scene leader if needed.
